Brief History of Central Dallas Church
Central Dallas Church was founded in 1992 by Rev. Carey D. Dowl at 801 N. Peak Street in Old East Dallas. Born out of the outreach of the Central Dallas Food Pantry, the church was established to serve “the least of these” (Matthew 25:45) and minister to those facing poverty and hardship in the community. From its beginning, the church has reflected a rich diversity of life experiences and backgrounds and has remained a non-denominational congregation committed to service and discipleship.
In 1995, the church relocated to 409 N. Haskell, where membership grew and outreach efforts expanded. Rev. Dowl was succeeded by Minister Billy Lane in 1996. In 2005, the church moved to its current location at 1950 N. Washington Avenue. Pastor Preston W. Weaver later led the congregation in impactful community ministries, including hot meal programs, Bible study groups, and support services.
Since June 2011, Pastor Lorenzo Brown has continued this legacy—preaching the Gospel, loving the people, and developing leaders and disciples of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18–20).
For over three decades, Central Dallas Church has remained committed to faith, service, and community.
